I have to admit I may have gotten a little too ambitious with building my own custom theme with Jekyll. There is a lot that I don’t know, but also a lot that I’d like to add to improve the look of this version of my website. My latest development is adding a new blog section to this website and this is my first blog post! I have realized though that it may be better to work with an existing theme that has a lot of the features and design already baked in. I may have finally found one although it kinda feels like it may be overkill for a simple minimal website that I’d like, but it looks so cool! I’m currently working on modifying it and I’m learning a lot just by studying the code to get it to look how I want it to look.

Learned about the different frameworks that are out there to build modern websites, frameworks like Bootstrap and Tailwind CSS. I’ve started exploring a little bit of Bootstrap and explored the docs and I gotta say it kinda feels like these frameworks were made for people that think working with CSS can be a pain. (I knew I wasn’t the only person out there that thought working with CSS can be a pain!)

Anyway, I’d like to explore more of Bootstrap or Tailwind later on after I get a new version of this website up and running! It feels like I’m getting close to it as I’m making edits to this one theme that I’ll release once it’s ready! I’ve also gotten a chance to practice my git skills. Created a new branch for this new theme and made changes and edits and learned that I can’t change back to my main branch without committing my changes in my current branch first. Definitely have made mistakes along the way, but I’ve gotta say that having AI as a tool has been quite the blessing! Gemini and Claude are awesome! (I wish Claude didn’t have those annoying usage limits though.) It’s actually been pretty fun and enjoyable using these AI tools to help me debug and troubleshoot along the way.

Well, I’ll keep this one short. Will continue to work on getting the new website version based on an existing Jekyll theme released. Can’t wait!
